What the ✨ emoji means

Three small sparkles. They mark something new, clean or magical, and — placed on both sides of a phrase — add ironic emphasis: ✨this✨ is how it works now.

Common in release notes, beauty and lifestyle posts, and as a decorative frame around a word. The sarcastic sandwich reading is now at least as frequent as the sincere one.

Where the ✨ emoji is used

The ✨ smiley copies in one tap and pastes into a chat as text, not as a picture: it is a Unicode symbol, so it works the same in WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and in a post caption. Every platform draws emoji its own way — below you can see how sparkles is drawn in the open Noto, OpenMoji and Twemoji sets.
