Which of the 3953 emoji each of the 3 open image sets actually draws — counted from the files, not claimed.
Every emoji card here shows the same character in several drawings at once. They are not screenshots of phones: they are open sets that we keep as files, so a card looks the same no matter what fonts your device has.

The numbers are counted over our own files by the same rule the pages use, so the table cannot disagree with what you see on a card.
Why an emoji shows up as a square
A square, or “tofu”, means the font has no drawing for that character. System fonts trail the standard by months: the release comes out in September, phones get it in spring, desktops later still. From Emoji 16.0 onwards — that is 171 symbols — we substitute an image, so those pages work everywhere.
Take Emoji 16.0: Google shipped it first, on September 10, 2024, and Microsoft last, on August 29, 2025 — 12 months apart.
When new emoji reach devices
The standard comes out in September; devices get it months later, and each platform on its own schedule. Every row below is checked against the description of that particular release.
Apple
The same set across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, so the row names the iOS version.

The font is Noto Color Emoji. Since 2022 Google has released it separately from Android, so the later rows carry the font version.
